Coil Mapping
Automatic Feed Company’s coil mapping
system allows coils with defect sections to pass through the
blanking line without any negative impact on the quality of
the stacks.
Possible defect position data is provided
by the mill that manufactured the coil. Using this data, a line
operator enters into HMI a series of ‘start and stop’
reject coordinates along the length of the coil.
At coil thread-up the leading edge of the
coil is tracked through the machine and any cropped off material
at the crop shear is accounted for. Next, the coil position
is monitored during continuous production and when any of the
predetermined “mapped” position are fed into the
press the feed line will automatically reject the resulting
parts within the defect starting and stopping positions. These
rejected parts are not allowed to drop into the prime stacks
and are directed into the reject tub at the end of the stacker.
The rejects are counted as rejects and do not affect the stack
counts.
This system, while requiring an end reject
station, allows for inspection on the fly, which will enhance
production.
